Giants reliever Sergio Romo began his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats Monday night, taking one step closer in joining his big league teammates.
Romo pitched one inning in Sacramento, striking out the side in 17 pitches. He also gave up a solo shot to Brewers shortstop prospect Orlando Arcia.

The home run resulted in a blown save for Romo, who came away with the win for the River Cats.
After pitching one inning Monday night, Romo is set to throw again Wednesday. He will then go back-to-back on Sunday and Monday. If all goes well, Romo is expected to join the Giants in Atlanta next week to be activated.

Romo last pitched for the Giants on April 10, in a 9-6 win over the Dodgers, after which he was placed on the DL with a strained flexor tendon in his throwing elbow.
The nine-year veteran is 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 3 1/3 innings pitched for the Giants this season.
