The Giants' first experience with the new extra-innings rule this season was one they wanted to forget. They'll feel the same way about the new doubleheader rule.
The Dodger swept both seven-inning games Thursday, with very little pushback from Giants hitters. There were just two hits in the 2-0 loss in the afternoon, both from Brandon Belt, and six total in the 14 innings.

While Clayton Kershaw pitched the opener, the Dodgers dominated in the second contest by having a pure bullpen game. Seven relievers combined for the shutout, which dropped the Giants to 15-18. Here's what you need to know from Game 2:
Worked Hard
Kevin Gausman struck out six, but lasted just 4 2/3 innings because of some deep counts. Gausman gave up a pair of runs, both of which were scored by Joc Pederson. He hit a homer to dead center in his first at-bat and doubled to right the next time up, scoring on Will Smith's double to left-center.
Gausman was making his last start before the trade deadline. Two of his starts this month have come against the Dodgers, and at times his power stuff was able to overpower some of their best hitters. If the Giants do decide to sell some of their pending free agents, Gausman could be intriguing to other National League teams looking ahead to October.
San Francisco Giants
One To Build Off
Trevor Gott made his second appearance since that series of blown leads, and while this wasn't protecting a lead for the former closer, it still was a big spot. Gott came on for Sam Selman with one out and two on in the sixth, the Giants trailing by a pair. He got A.J. Pollock to hit into an inning-ending double play.

Season Series
In a weird scheduling quirk, the rivals won't play in September. This was it for the two teams, with the Giants finishing 4-6 in the season series, which saw seven of the 10 games played at Dodger Stadium. That's ... actually not bad. The Dodgers are 18-5 against everyone else in baseball.
