Giants top prospect Joey Bart fractures left hand, out 4-to-6 weeks

WASHINGTON D.C. — Giants top prospect Joey Bart fractured his left hand on Monday night in San Jose, manager Bruce Bochy told reporters on Tuesday.

Bart was hit by a pitch Monday night and left the San Jose Giants’ game against the Stockton Ports for X-rays. Ironically, the pitch that hit Bart actually was ruled a foul ball.

Bart attempted to stay in before exiting Monday’s game in the fourth inning. San Jose announcer Joe Ritzo tweeted that the catcher was “in obvious pain.”

Bart, last year’s first-round draft pick, is off to a strong start in his first full professional season. He has a .882 OPS, two homers and eight RBI in 10 games.
