Giants top prospect Joey Bart reveals his nickname for Madison Bumgarner

To Giants fans, he's MadBum. But to top prospect Joey Bart, Madison Bumgarner has a much different nickname.

"MadBum, he's the man," Bart said Thursday morning on KNBR. "My nickname for him, I think I'd call him 'The Warden.' That just came to my mind the first couple of days interacting with him.

"He's great, he's so good. He's a lot of fun."

The Giants' ace has taken the team's top pick from the 2018 draft under his wings a bit. Most of the time though, that means some friendly jokes at spring training.

"He messes with me a little bit, but I love it. If he messes with me, that's awesome," Bart said. "I don't care. Anything coming from him, I'll take it."

Bart is getting his first taste of the big leagues this spring, and on the first day of camp, he was tasked with catching Bumgarner's bullpen. The team's ace wanted the 22-year-old to get in the squat for him, but even then Bumgarner wouldn't let the hopeful future face of the franchise know his real feelings.

"He wasn't even looking at me. I was just getting my gear on and he was like, 'Bart let's get number one,'" the young catcher said in his best Bumgarner voice.

The MadBum era has brought the Giants three World Series rings. Bart is the biggest name when it comes to Giants' future, but every bright-eyed prospect needs a good warden showing him the ropes first.
