Tyler Beede's strong start to the Cactus League season has been derailed.
The 26-year-old right-handed pitcher experienced tightness in his right elbow during his outing Tuesday and will undergo tests, Giants manager Gabe Kapler told reporters in Arizona, according to The San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman.
Beede is part of the competition for the Giants' fifth starter, but for the moment, that's on hold.

In two outings this spring, Beede has pitched three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, two walks and striking out three.
In his first full season with the Giants last year, Beede made 22 starts and two relief appearances. He posted a 5.08 ERA and struck out 113 batters in 117 innings pitched.
Beede also exited his final start of the 2019 regular season after sustaining an oblique injury.

Elbow tightness is usually bad news for a pitcher, but it's a bit early to speculate on what this means for Beede. The tests on Beede's right elbow will take place Tuesday night, so the Giants should know more about his future in the coming hours.
Hopefully for Beede, it's just a minor setback and not a long-term injury.
