GM Bobby Evans reveals Giants' decision on Matt Moore's 2018 option

Matt Moore's first full season with the Giants hasn't gone well. But the 28-year-old lefty will be back with the Giants in 2018.

The Giants hold a $9 million team option on Moore and the team plans to pick it up, GM Bobby Evans told The LA Times on Saturday.

"We'll pick up his option," Evans said.

In 30 appearances this season, Moore has a 5.39 ERA. That's the worst ERA among qualified National League starters and third-worst in all of Major League Baseball behind only Jordan Zimmermann's 6.18 ERA for the Tigers and Jeremy Hellickson's 5.47 with the Phillies and Orioles. In 167 innings, Moore has struck out 142 batters.

The Giants also hold a $10 million option on Moore for the 2019 season. They acquired Moore from Tampa Bay last July in a trade that sent Matt Duffy and young prospect Lucious Fox to the Rays.
