How Giants beat Dodgers in extras is extremely rare in modern-era MLB

Well that was fun.

The Giants won their seventh straight game in thrilling fashion Tuesday night when they beat the Dodgers, 10-8, in 11 innings on Donovan Solano's two-run walk-off homer. And the way the Giants beat their biggest rival was extremely rare.

The Giants are the just second team in the modern era to trail in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings of a game and still win, according to STATS.

San Francisco was down 6-5 going into the bottom of ninth inning before Brandon Belt blasted his second home run of the night to tie it up at six runs apiece. A Joey Bart throwing error then gave the Dodgers a 7-6 lead in the 10th, but a sharp grounder to third from Mauricio Dubon tied it up yet again in the bottom half of the inning.

Finally, in the top of the 11th, Justin Turner gave the Dodgers the lead again on a slow roller that pitcher Tyler Rogers lost his footing on. After more and more torture, Solano ended it all with his two-out blast off Dennis Santana.

The walk-off homer was Solano's first hit of the night, the only one that mattered in an exhilarating win.
