In the midst of a seven-game road losing streak, the Giants returned home to Oracle Park to face the Chicago Cubs in hopes of restoring their winning ways.
The Giants got the 4-2 win over the Cubs but they had to finish the game without All-Star outfielder Joc Pederson.
In the seventh inning, Chicago Cubs third baseman Patrick Wisdom hit a deep shot into left field. Pederson tracked the ball to the wall and made a leaping attempt to try and snag the ball.

However, Pederson mistimed his jump and hit the wall while the ball bounced on the top of the wall and over to cut the Giants' lead to two.
After the win, Giants manager Gabe Kapler provided an update on Pederson.
"Joc's fine," Kapler told reporters. "We're going to keep evaluating him but he did run into the wall pretty hard. Jarred his head a little bit, so he's got a little bit of a headache."

Following the hit, Pederson sat in the dugout and that was when it was decided that he should be pulled. Pederson was 0-for-2 on the night with a walk when he exited the game. LaMonte Wade Jr. replaced Pederson shortly thereafter.

After starting the second half of the season 0-7, the Giants finally put an end to their historic losing skid. Alex Wood took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and ultimately went 6 2/3 innings and gave up two hits, two earned runs, two walks, and struck out two while Yermin Mercedes had two RBI in the win.
The Giants are hoping that Pederson won't be out for too long, especially as they try to right the ship and make a push for the final Wild Card spot, amid rampant speculation on the team's direction with the MLB trade deadline looming.
