Miller pays tribute to Kuip with Crawford home run call

The Giants' television broadcasting booth missed one legend Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers. But luckily, they have another one. With Jon Miller stepping in for Duane Kuiper on the TV side, Miller reminded us we are all #KuipStrong right now.

Miller sent fans out of the top of the ninth inning with Kuiper's signature "outta here!" home run call looking back at Brandon Crawford's second deep fly of the night in the Giants' 9-4 win on the road.

Duane's son, Cole, who also is the co-host of NBC Sports Bay Area's Giants Talk podcast, sure loved Miller's tribute too.

On Monday, Kuiper, 71, announced he will miss some Giants games as he undergoes chemotherapy for a recently discovered medical condition. Kuiper does plan to still broadcast games with his partner Mike Krukow, but will be cutting back on the games he calls.

"I still plan on broadcasting this season, though I may take a few more games off if I'm not feeling well and I want to thank my broadcast partners for their unconditional support and willingness to step in and cover for me," Kuiper said in a statement. "Thank you for your prayers and for giving me the space and privacy to focus on my health at this time.

"While this was not the adventure I anticipated, I'm staying positive for a quick and full recovery."

As Giants fans watched Crawford become the franchise's all-time leader for games played at shortstop and continue to look like an All-Star, the theme of the night was the love and support Kuiper will have from San Francisco and beyond.
