Bryant pokes fun at Posey's slide, ‘I'm so fast' comment

Buster Posey is so fast … according to Buster Posey.

In the eighth inning of the Giants’ 7-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night, Posey slid into home after Brandon Crawford drove him in with a double the gap in left center.

Posey reacted by giving himself the sarcastic compliment.

Posey’s new teammate Kris Bryant however, begs to differ.

“I didn’t even really hear him, but I saw what he said, he said he’s so fast, I’ll agree to disagree with him,” Bryant said with a laugh on KNBR’s Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks on Thursday. “I saw him rounding third and I thought, ‘Holy cow, he’s taking forever to get here.’ Like c’mon. But I love Buster, he’s the heart and soul of this team. Gosh, just an unbelievable player.”

It took Posey a while to round the bases, but the joking was all in good fun.

Posey himself knew it was a bit tongue-in-cheek of a comment. Especially on the same night Los Angeles Dodgers’ Trea Turner showed us one of the most impressive and mesmerizing slides at the plate you’ll ever see.

While Posey might not be the fastest guy in the league, or on the Giants for that matter, he currently is slashing .336/.429/.560 with a .988 OPS, 13 doubles, 15 homers and 39 RBI.

One would imagine Posey taking his time when running from first base is not a factor to panic over. Whatever he’s doing, especially after opting out of the 2020 MLB season, it’s working for him.

Take all the time you need, Buster.
