The Giants' top prospect is on the move.

Marco Luciano has been promoted from Low-A San Jose to High-A Eugene, the affiliates announced Wednesday morning. The move comes after 70 games in Low-A that validated Luciano's status as one of the best prospects in baseball.

Luciano, 19, led Low-A West with 18 homers, averaging one every 14.7 at-bats. He was third in the league in extra-base hits (35) and RBI (57), fourth in slugging (.544) and sixth in OPS (.930). Luciano also showed pretty solid command of the strike zone, the most important trait for the organization's front office, drawing 38 walks to 68 strikeouts.

The shortstop did all this while being two years younger than the average hitter in the league.

Luciano was in camp with the Giants this spring and opened eyes with his power and maturity. He is the organization's top prospect and currently ranks seventh in all of baseball, according to Baseball America.

The Giants have taken a cautious approach with Luciano and all of their top prospects this season. It seems likely that Luciano finishes the year with Eugene and then gets a chance to start next season with Double-A Richmond. Before Luciano played in the Futures Game last month, president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said Luciano was doing everything the organization needed to see out of him.

"We're really excited about his progress," Zaidi said.
