The past few years I’ve been quite honored to have a small part in helping raise awareness for Pediatric Cancer. The Posey family has made this “cause,” their main cause and the domino affect throughout the Giants organization and our NBC Sports Bay Area broadcasts has been very inspiring. I worked with Buster and Kristen on a Facebook Live broadcast through Esurance, where we discussed why the Poseys got on board with this issue and in 2017 and 2018 I hosted a panel of guests at AT&T Park closely connected with Pediatric Cancer, who shared their stories on the Giants annual Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day. And now, after hosting Buster and Kristen's annual fundraiser for Pediatric Cancer Awareness, Mike Krukow and his wife Jennifer were so moved by the experience, they have become the next domino to fall towards finding a cure.
This past week, I was humbled to be a part of what was considered by participants to be a “grassroots” fundraiser. The Krukows graciously opened their home in Reno to neighbors, friends and anyone concerned for their own “Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night.” Proceeds raised from those in attendance through bidding on amazing Giants experiences, silent auction items that wowed, raffle prizes and a generous entry fee were given to the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation as well as a portion to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital where the Poseys concentrate their efforts. It was a night of complete unity. A cause for which everyone was on board. An evening anchored by a love of baseball, but it quickly became bigger than the game. Four percent of all money raised for cancer research is given to Pediatric Cancer research. Doesn’t that number seem incredibly low? The Krukows think so too, and did something about it
