Mike Krukow: Giants can't count on Mac Williamson or Jarrett Parker

The Giants reportedly spoke with the Tigers about a possible trade surrounding Detroit outfielder J.D. Martinez.

On Tuesday morning, Mike Krukow was asked for his thoughts about the Orange and Black potentially looking for lineup help from outside the organization.

"They need it and they need a guy who can turn around a game with one swing," Krukow told KNBR 680. "Next year, we're all gonna anticipate that Hunter Pence is gonna play more than he did this year ... when he's out of the lineup, there's a huge void there.

"When you talk about Jarrett Parker or Mac Williamson, they've got power but they haven't been consistent with it. And when they get it going, it seems like they get an injury or something. So bottom line is you can't count on it. If they come through next year it would be a nice surprise, but you can't count on it."

Parker hit .236 with five home runs and 14 RBI over 63 games last season.

Williamson batted .223 with six home runs and 15 RBI in 53 appearances last year.

Pence and Denard Span are slated to start in right field and center field respectively, and Angel Pagan is a free agent.

"I think they need to have an anchor in the outfield that's gonna promise that it's gonna be 20 or more home runs in his bat," Krukow added. "I think you're gonna see at least one outfielder come into the mix, maybe two."
