Kapler says Yaz has calf strain, won't go on injured list

The Giants’ MVP candidate won’t be going on the injured list, as the MRI results for outfielder Mike Yastrzemski revealed a mild right calf strain.

Yastrzemski left Thursday’s game against the Seattle Mariners in the second inning, after he felt tightness during a swing.

As the final days of the season dwindle, losing a player of Yastrzemski’s caliber would have been a brutal blow to the lineup.

Yaz has been one of the Giants’ brightest stars in this abbreviated 2020 season, slashing .285/.390/.553 and ranks among the 10 best MLB position players in Wins Above Replacement.

He won’t start Friday night’s game against the A’s, but hopefully, for the Giants, the talented outfielder can return to the lineup sooner rather than later.
