Kayaker gets sweet redemption on Yaz slam after early flop

As the old saying goes: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

That had to be the motto for one kayaker in McCovey Cove on Tuesday night.

During the second inning of the Giants' tilt with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Oracle Park, Steven Duggar launched a blast over the right field wall and into the cove, giving the kayaker the perfect chance to land a splash-hit souvenir. But, unfortunately, he was beaten to the punch by an intrepid fan with a net.

However, good things come to those who wait. When Mike Yastrzemski crushed a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning, the universe gave the kayaker a chance at redemption. And he capitalized.

Never give up on your dreams, kids.

As for the Giants, their come-from-behind win over the Diamondbacks saw them improve to 42-25 and maintain a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers atop the National League West.

Something special appears to be brewing on the corner of Third and King, and even the kayakers are being rewarded by the baseball gods.
