The Giants reportedly are bringing catcher Bruce Maxwell back to the Bay Area.

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reported Sunday morning San Francisco has acquired the former Athletics catcher from the New York Mets. Maxwell reportedly has been acquired for cash considerations, according to KNBR's Mark Sanchez.

Maxwell, 30, hasn't played in the majors since 2018. On Sept. 23, 2017, Maxwell became the first MLB player to kneel during the national anthem when he was a member of the A's as a peaceful protest against police brutality and racial and social injustices in America.

This season, Maxwell had played nine games with the Mets' Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse. He was hitting .174 with one home run at the time of the trade. Maxwell spent the previous two years playing in Mexico.

Over three years -- 127 games -- with the A's, Maxwell hit .240 with five homers.
