MLB rumors: Giants in active trade discussions for another outfielder

Farhan Zaidi continues to work the phones.

After acquiring first baseman/outfielder Tyler Austin earlier this month as a depth piece, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Friday that the Giants president of baseball operations is still looking for more outfield help.

The Giants moved Brandon Belt to left field at the beginning of the month to accommodate Austin's transition to the club, but Austin recently has been dealing with inflammation in his elbow. Belt was confident in his outfield play -- he had an outfield assist last season -- but hasn't been needed there with Austin on the shelf.

With Austin consistently being out of the lineup, the team appears to be looking elsewhere.

Austin was acquired not only to help cover the outfield, but also to provide a powerful bat to go against lefties. And with this injury appearing to be aggravating and not going away, the Giants are seeming to take an aggressive approach in hopes of creating some action.

The current outfield trio of Kevin Pillar, Steven Duggar and Gerardo Parra has been better as of late, but the team needs the depth.
