MLB Rumors: Giants interested in Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi to head baseball ops

The Giants reportedly want to turn to their biggest rivals to head their revamped baseball operations department.

The team is interested in Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi for the position, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported on Tuesday.

Zaidi has Bay Area ties, as he spent a decade working in various roles in the Oakland A's front office. He started as a baseball operations analyst in 2005, then was promoted to director of baseball operations four years later. In 2014, he added assistant general manager to his responsibilites, before being hired by the Dodgers on Nov. 6 of that year, becoming the first Muslim GM of an American professional sports franchise.

During that time, the Dodgers won four consecutive NL West titles, and won the NL pennant each of the last two years. Los Angeles was the only team to achieve either feat during that span, but failed to win a World Series title in either appearance.

The Dodgers also are currently under federal scrutiny. The Department of Justice is investigating corruption related to the recruitment of international players by MLB teams, Sports Illustrated reported earlier this month. The Dodgers feature prominently in a dossier a whistleblower provided to the FBI, and documents from 2015 seemed to show the team tried to sidestep MLB rules and federal laws requiring Cuban players to live in another country before signing.

Zaidi reports to Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, who did not respond to a request for comment from SI.
