MLB rumors: Ron Wotus told he's no longer Giants manager candidate

Ron Wotus will have to wait a little bit longer for his first major league managerial job.

The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly reported Saturday that the Giants have told the longtime coach that he is no longer in the running for their open job.

Wotus has been with the Giants organization since 1988 and has been a coach with the franchise since 1998. After serving as bench coach from 1999 through the 2017 season, the 58-year-old spent the last two seasons as the third base coach for Bruce Bochy.

Wotus continues to strike out in his quest for a manager job.

Over the last few weeks, the Giants have conducted interviews with a long list of candidates, including Astros bench coach Joe Espada, A's coach Mark Kotsay and Rays coach Matt Quatraro.

Being spurned by the team he's spent three decades with has to hurt Wotus. But it's likely that president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi just wants a new voice to lead the Giants into the next decade.
