Report: Twins' Correa offer $65M below Giants' $350M winning bid

The Giants finally have the superstar they expect to build around for the foreseeable future.

NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic confirmed the initial reporting done by ESPN's Jeff Passan that San Fransico and Carlos Correa have agreed to a 13-year, $350 million contract.

The New York Post's Jon Heyman reported Tuesday that the Minnesota Twins' offer to Correa was close to $285 million for 10 years, $65 million below what the Giants offered to secure the former Houston Astro star.

Having lost out on Correa, Minnesota now turns its attention to Dansby Swanson to replace the 28-year-old, who will have plenty of suitors as he remains the lone superstar shortstop on the market.

After striking out on their pursuit of New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, who reportedly agreed to a nine-year contract worth $360 million to remain in the Bronx, the Giants grabbed one of the marquee free agent shortstops in the market.

San Francisco's contract to Correa is not only below what Judge received, but they did so by putting in a contract that surpassed what the Twins were willing to offer.

While the Giants didn't land the biggest fish in free agency, they did land a player at a premium position and still in the middle of his prime years, so the team has a superstar that many will want to see in 2023.
