DENVER -- Buster Posey has the highest batting average at Coors Field among active players, but the catcher is out of Tuesday's lineup.
Posey has a sore right foot after taking a wicked foul tip off Chase Utley's bat Sunday, and even after a team off day, the Giants felt Posey needed another day to heal. The injury is to the inside of Posey's foot but X-rays came back negative.
"We all think he's going to be good to go tomorrow," manager Bruce Bochy said. "He bruised it pretty good. It's pretty sore. He needs a break."
Posey is available to pinch-hit or back up Trevor Brown behind the plate. He missed Friday's game because Bochy wanted to give him a rest day.
Posey is 9 for 23 this season with two homers. He is a .396 hitter at Coors Field, with nine homers and 34 RBI in 46 games.
--- The Rockies raised the right-center fence by almost nine feet, and Bochy said he's in favor of it.
"It's just making it fair," he said. "I like it. It's going to knock down a few of the cheap homers that go right into that right-center gap and get in the jet stream."
No balls have been hit off the new fence so far, but two homers have been hit over it. Bochy joked that Ryan Vogelsong is surely happy the change wasn't made until this year. Vogelsong went deep here last season.
--- Nolan Arenado hit 10 homers off the Giants last year.
"We made a lot of mistakes and we paid for them," Bochy said. "It was a Bonds-type year against a team, what he did against us."
