Forever Giant Sandoval cracks Braves' opening day roster

Pablo Sandoval's remarkable MLB career will continue in 2021, as the longtime Giant will be one of the 26 players on the Atlanta Braves' Opening Day roster.

Sandoval played 33 games for the Giants in 2020 after signing a minor league contract and making the team's Opening Day roster. Sandoval hit .220 with one home run and six RBI over 90 plate appearances before being designated for assignment on Sept. 10.

He was picked up by Atlanta a few days later, eventually making the active roster. Sandoval got two at-bats in the regular season for the Braves and got four plate appearances in the National League Championship Series, getting on base once after being hit by a pitch.

Sandoval once again entered the spring on a minor league deal, and he made the major league roster after a red-hot spring. The 34-year-old has slashed .375/.421/.469 in 32 at-bats for Atlanta this spring.

The fan favorite won't be the only former Giant on Atlanta's roster Opening Day, as Ehire Adrianza also will be in the Braves' dugout to start the season. Adrianza is hitting .412 in spring training and leads the entire team with 12 RBI.

The duo won't play against any of their former Giants teammates for a while. The Giants and Braves don't square off until Aug. 27 in Atlanta, with a three-game series at Oracle Park beginning Sept. 17.

Nevertheless, it is fun to see Sandoval get another chance in MLB. Sandoval gave Giants fans plenty of iconic moments during his stints in McCovey Cove, and he will receive a warm welcome from the crowd when he and the Braves visit San Francisco in September.
