SAN FRANCISCO -- A scary collision in left field during the Giants' game Thursday night at Petco Park led to Jurickson Profar being carted off the field with an injury that hopefully is not nearly as bad as it looked initially.

Profar, playing left field, collided with San Diego Padres shortstop C.J. Abrams on a shallow fly ball in the top of the fifth inning and both players immediately went down.

Abrams' left knee collided with Profar's face and bent him back, and Profar stayed down for a couple of minutes before attempting to walk back to the dugout. He collapsed after a few steps and a cart was brought out after a long delay.

Profar was immobilized, but appeared to be in good spirits. He nodded often as trainers and a team doctor asked him questions and ran him through tests, and he was smiling as a brace was put around his neck and he was lifted onto the cart.Ā

Profar fist-bumped several teammates and raised a fist for the crowd as he was carted off, which hopefully is a sign that the injuries were not serious. He received a loud ovation and applause from both dugouts.
