Phillies vs. Giants lineups: Jeff Samardzija to repeat power over Bryce Harper

Share

The Giants witnessed an instance of "oh, what could have been" Friday night against the Phillies, as Bryce Harper went 2-for-4 with two home runs at Oracle Park. Harper's two loud shots muffled fans calling the 26-year-old six-time All-Star "overrated," as Philly snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Orange and Black will continue the series against the Phillies on Saturday with Jeff Samardzija taking the mound. He pitched Monday and gave up one run over four frames against the Nationals. Across his career, Shark is 3-5 with a 7.33 ERA in 13 appearances against the Phillies.

Against Harper, though, Samardzija is very good, if you're into batter-versus-pitcher numbers. The Phillies slugger is just 3-for-19 against Shark, with those three hits just singles.

Vince Velasquez draws starting honors for the Phillies, and he has been successful in his last three starts, boasting a 2.04 ERA. He might not go long against the Giants, however. During one of his recent outings against the D-backs, he lasted seven innings, the longest he had gone since July 22, 2018.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., and you can watch the game on NBC Sports Bay Area or by downloading and streaming on the MyTeams app.
