The San Francisco Giants traded pitcher Ryan Vogelsong to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2001. In five seasons with the Pirates, Vogelsong accumulated a 10-19 record with a 6.00 ERA.
Vogelsong ventures to Japan
After his stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates, in 2007 Vogelsong signed with the Hanshin Tigers of the Nippon Professional Baseball league in Japan. In 2009 he would sign and play for the Orix Buffaloes.
Back to San Francisco
Ryan Vogelsong returned to Giants in 2011 after a brief stint with the Anaheim Angels, signing a minor league deal with the team, An injury to pitcher Barry Zito, however, would force his way into the lineup. Vogelsong showed tremendous growth finishing the 2011 season with a 13-7 record and a 2.71 ERA.
Making the All-Star team
With impressive starts under his belt in 2011, Vogelsong earned himself an All-Star spot alongside teammates Matt Cain and former Giants closer Brain Wilson.
Vogelsong staves off Giants elimantion in NLCS
Vogelsong made his post-season debut in game 3 of the 2012 National League Division Series against the Cincinnati Reds. With the Giants down 2-0 in the series, Vogelsong helped keep the game close, allowing just one run through 5 innings with the Giants eventually winning 2-1 in 10 innings.
Vogelsong 2-0 in NLCS
With the St. Louis Cardinals leading 1-0 in the National League Conference series, Vogelsong helped square the series at 1-1 in game 2 allowing just 1 run in seven innings. In game 6 with the San Francisco Giants again facing elimination Vogelsong again helped stave off elimination allowing just 1 run in the game en route to a 6-1 win.
World Series 2012
With the San Fransico Giants advancing to the World Series, Vogelsong pitched in game 3 against the Detroit Tigers. This time with San Francisco up 2-0 in the series, Vogelsong would not allow a single run that night as the Giants won game 3 and eventually went on to win the World Series in a game 4 sweep.
Vogelsong joins team USA for WBC
In March 2013, Vogelsong joined the USA team for the World Baseball Classic.
A season to forget in 2013
The 2013 season wasn't the best year for Vogelsong. A fracture to his right hand would sideline him for most of the season concluding the year with a 4-6 record and a 5.73 ERA, his worst since returning to the team in 2011.
