Report: Giants agree to minor league deal with utility infielder

Lost in the shuffle of the Giants trading for Evan Longoria and looking at other ways to improve their roster, the team reportedly added versatility to the infield on Thursday.

The Giants and utility infielder Josh Rutledge agreed to a minor league deal, according to Chris Cotillo of SB Nation.

Rutledge, 28, played 37 games with the Red Sox this past season. He struggled offensively with a career-low .224 batting average.

What makes Rutledge intriguing is his ability to play multiple positions in the infield. In 2017, Rutledge played 20 games at third base, 16 at second base and five at first base.

Over his six-year career with the Rockies and Red Sox, Rutledge has played 141 games at shortstop, 133 at second, 47 at third, and five at first.
