Tyler Beede's up-and-down season continued Sunday with another rough outing at Coors Field. The Giants starting pitcher allowed five earned runs over just 3 2/3 innings in a 6-2 loss to the Rockies.
"Too many mistakes with the offspeed," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said after the loss. "This is not a park that you can do that."
Giants shortstop Donovan Solano gave Beede an early cushion with a leadoff homer to start the game, but that wasn't enough. The right-hander allowed three earned runs -- on two homers -- in the first frame alone.

"That first inning, everything was up," Bochy said. "He was trying to incorporate his offspeed pitches a little bit more but he was leaving them up and he was paying for it."
Beede now has lost twice at Coors Field this season -- once out of the bullpen -- and has allowed seven earned runs in just 5 2/3 innings. But Beede's struggled aren't unique to the hitter-friendly ballpark, he's been struggling everywhere lately.
After Sunday's ugly start, Beede now has allowed at least four earned runs in each of his last three starts. In that span, he's allowed 28 hits and 13 earned runs over 14 1/3 innings. And this comes right after he put together four straight solid starts.
Prior to this tough stretch, Beede had only allowed six earned runs in his last 27 innings. A streak that spanned four starts. That's how this season has gone for him, though. Beede owns a 3-6 record and 5.38 ERA on the year.

While Beede has improved his command and shown the ability to strikeout big league hitters, he's been far too inconsistent.
The Giants can't just rely on Madison Bumgarner and Jeff Samardzija. Beede and the rest of the young staff have to step their game up if San Francisco wants to compete in the NL wild-card race.
