How tarantula encounter led to Crawford kids' viral video

It certainly was a night to remember for Brandon Crawford and his family.

Launching a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night at Oracle Park, Crawford's big moment resulted in a viral video of his children watching and reacting to the moment, posted by his wife Jalynne on Twitter shortly after.

Well, the story gets even better.

Jalynne Crawford joined 95.7 The Game's "Willard and Dibs" on Wednesday afternoon, where she discussed the viral moment. She revealed the odd reason why her kids were awake and watching their father's big home run after she previously had put them to bed.

"It's kind of a funny story, because I actually had them in bed and every night I have to turn off the game and they're just so disappointed," Crawford explained. "Like, 'we have to wait until the morning to find out if we won or lost?' I had gotten them in bed, turned off all the TVs and I went to take our dogs out and on our way back in, there was a huge tarantula by our door. And I called my dad, I knew the game was on, I was following on my phone, and my dad's like 'you gotta get the kids out of bed, they love the spiders, it's so rare to see a tarantula.'

"So I went and got the three kids that were still awake, they didn't fall asleep right away, unfortunately, that's the norm. And they were so excited for the spider and I saw what happened on my phone and ran to turn the TV on and watch the home run go over the wall live. And so I didn't tell the kids, they just heard me scream for maybe the spider. So I rewound the TV and took just one video of them, because I didn't want to tell them what happened, I wanted their natural reaction and I took the video and just sent it to our families and the guys in the clubhouse were showing (Brandon)."

Not only do the Crawfords have a memory that will last a lifetime, but they also have an interesting new pet with a great name.

"I was like 'I wish I was there last night,' and he goes 'but you would not have had that moment with the kids.' It truly was special and I thank the tarantula because there would not have been that moment. And we named him 'walk-off,' " Crawford said.

"Yeah, we have a pet tarantula."

Now, whenever the Crawford kids bring out the #RallySpider (hopefully in a cage), they will be reminded of the late night watching their father send one over the wall and send many Giants fans home happy.
