The Giants expect big things from Jaylin Davis this season.

And on Friday night in Los Angeles, the rookie outfielder gave manager Gabe Kapler and his coaching staff a glimpse of his potential.

With the Giants trailing the Dodgers 2-0 in the third inning, Davis hit a Ross Stripling fastball the opposite way for his first homer of the season.

Davis' homer also was the Giants' first homer of the young 2020 season.

The solo homer traveled 374 feet and had an exit velocity of 103 miles per hour.

The Giants acquired Davis last year in a trade with the Minnesota Twins. The 26-year-old came to the Giants possessing prodigious power, having hit 25 homers in the minors before the trade. After joining Triple-A Sacramento, Davis hit 10 more home runs in 27 games.

Davis got a cup of coffee with the Giants at the end of last season, but only managed to hit one homer in 17 games. It was a memorable dinger, though, as it was a walk-off homer against the Colorado Rockies.

But given a chance to play a lot during the 60-game season, Davis has enough power to finish the campaign as the Giants' home run leader.
