There are no fans at Oracle Park this year, but the tradition of Metallica performing the national anthem before a Giants game still is alive.
For the eighth straight year, the iconic San Francisco-based rock band did their rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner on Wednesday before the Giants-Rockies game. But this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, they did so virtually.
Guitarist Kirk Hammett joined Giants Pregame Live and discussed the tradition with former Giants pitcher and avid Metallica fan George Kontos.
