When Kapler knew Giants were going to have special season

The Giants have surprised just about everyone, maybe even their own manager to an extent.

Built to compete late in the season, the Giants always were expected to be a competitive team, but the best team in baseball? Nobody anticipated that.

Prior to Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Giants manager Gabe Kapler answered questions from Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal about his team's success this season.

Rosenthal asked Kapler when he began to believe that this Giants team was set up for a special season.

“I think when we got into the flow of the season," Kapler said. "So sometime in May or June, you could probably sense that we were on the right track and we had the mindset as a group to be consistent and to not get too caught up in the highs and lows of the season.

"I think that’s a really important characteristic. I would say probably at some point in the first couple of months.”

Not even the Giants' own manager expected them to be this good. Talk about a pleasant surprise in your first full 162-game season in San Francisco.

Kapler's Giants currently are battling their way through the toughest portion of their schedule to date. Four games against the Brewers followed by three against the Los Angeles Dodgers could have massive ramifications on the Giants' NL West lead and overall seeding in the National League.
