Why CC Sabathia has Barry Bonds on his all-time athlete Mount Rushmore

Who would be on your Mount Rushmore of sports? Upon first thought, who comes to mind?

Michael Jordan? Babe Ruth? Tiger Woods? The possibilities are endless which is a good problem to have. But for CC Sabathia, there’s one Giants legend that has to be mentioned: Barry Bonds.

Sabathia joined ESPN’s Jordan Schultz for an Instagram Live and he picked Muhammed Ali, Tom Brady and MJ for their Mt. Rushmore reps. But he wanted to make sure, as a baseball fan, to include a baseball player.

“So for me, I guess I always loved -- like I’m a huge Barry Bonds fan,” Sabathia said. “I think he’s one of the best players ever. So I would have to put him on there.”

Sabathia, who just recently retired after a 19-year career where he earned a Cy Young Award and six All-Star selections, knows a legendary player when he sees one. But he’s also a Bay Area native growing up in Vallejo. He knows the impact Bonds had around there.

Baseball players are often left out of the Mount Rushmore talks, but Bonds of all guys, deserves to be mentioned as one of the greatest of all time.

To catch you up, Bonds has the most all-time career home runs with 762 and the most all-time walks with 2,558, 14 All-Star selections, eight Gold Gloves, seven MVP Awards and two batting titles.

Yeah, I guess we could see why Sabathia mentioned him.
