Giants fan gifted 25K baseball cards after losing hers in fire

I apologize in advance for the most adorable story you will hear today.

Kevin Ashford of San Jose is a longtime baseball card collector. When he heard 9-year-old Giants fan Reese Osterberg lost her 100-card collection in the Creek wildfire in neighboring counties in Northern California, Ashford wanted to replenish it.

The Mercury News’ Shayna Rubin spoke to Reese’s mom, Amy, who told the story of Reese’s letter to Buster Posey that went viral after she lost these cards.

That’s when Ashford thought about the huge collection of cards he had in his garage. He originally planned on selling them on eBay.

But instead …

“I'm going to donate them,” Ashford told NBC Bay Area. “I'm gonna donate them all and put a smile on a little girl's face."

Reese has given back to her community after being gifted the cards. Amy said she plans to keep some of the cards to restart her collection, but wants to share with others who also have lost some of their personal items in the fire.
