Swipa among five biggest snubs from 2021 NBA All-Star Game

There are only 24 slots available for the NBA All-Star Game each year, so someone is going to feel snubbed when the rosters are announced. But the question always remains: Who do you take off the roster? Anthony Davis' leg injuries are expected to open up another spot for a Western Conference player, but otherwise the spots seemed locked in heading into the March 7 exhibition in Atlanta.Spend enough time on NBA Twitter and you can assemble an All-Snub team. Here’s a few of this season’s best players who had a case for the All-Star Game, but didn’t make the cut.

The 23-year-old entered Tuesday averaging a career-high 22.3 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting this year, showing the ability to take over games for the Kings. He’s also dishing out 7.1 assists per game, which ranks eighth in the Western Conference, and averaging 8.6 in his last 16 contests.

But Sacramento is riding a seven-game losing streak, which might have hurt De’Aaron Fox’s case to make his first career All-Star Game. Though he said the idea of an All-Star Game would be “stupid” this year, it would have been a nice feather in the cap for the Kings’ franchise player.

Trae Young is perhaps the most notable snub of all, considering he ranks third in the NBA with 9.5 assists per game and remains one of the league’s top offensive threats. The sharpshooter’s scoring has declined a bit from last year’s All-Star pace, but he’s still averaging 26.9 points per game and knocking down 2.4 3-pointers a game.

It seems like Devin Booker is always putting on a show, but he was beat out for a reserve spot by teammate Chris Paul. Booker is shooting a career-best 50.1 percent from the field while putting up 24.7 points per game and continuing to be a regular highlight producer for the upstart Suns, who currently hold the No. 4 seed in the West.

The 76ers entered play on Tuesday as the Eastern Conference’s top team thanks to a talented frontcourt. Tobias Harris is being overshadowed by Joel Embiid’s MVP-caliber season but still putting up solid numbers, averaging 20.6 points on 51.3 percent shooting and 7.8 boards per game.

If winning truly mattered for All-Star Game credentials, Mike Conley deserves to be on this squad. The Utah Jazz entered play on Tuesday as the No. 1 seed with a 3.5-game lead in the West with Conley running the show, averaging 16.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting a career-best 41.2 percent from 3-point land.
