Brown: Fox's career-high in rebounds ‘special' performance

The Kings entered the win column for the first time in the 2022-23 NBA season after their 119-113 win over the Miami Heat on Saturday at Golden 1 Center.

De'Aaron Fox isn't known for his rebounding, as the 24-year-old has averaged 3.6 rebounds throughout his six-year NBA career. However, against the Heat, Fox was going for the basketball off the boards.

After an 0-4 start, anxiety over the playoff drought continuing sat in, but the Kings star wants to show fans this season is different after going outside his comfort zone by rebounding the ball.

Fox recorded a career-high 13 rebounds in the win, and the guard going after rebounds is the culture change that coach Mike Brown is bringing to Sacramento.

Brown spotlighted some of the key contributors to the win over the Heat but left Fox to the end and took the time to praise Fox for securing the ball, considering it was a physical game between the two teams.

"Here's a point guard, that in my opinion, is a winner, and he's a winner at the highest of high levels," Brown told reporters postgame. "And hopefully, he'll get a chance with this team to show it to you guys.

"Because for a point guard to come up with 13 rebounds in a physical game like this versus a really good team, it's athletic, tough, well coached. That's special. That takes a lot of heart and determination to go in there play after play after play, especially guarding somebody on the perimeter and then grab 13 boards to top it off. So whale of a game from him."

Heading into the Kings' game against Miami, Fox is outperforming his career total regarding rebounds, averaging 5.8 rebounds in four games. Of course, it's a small sample size, but it appears the Kings star truly wants to expand his game.

The Kings and Fox hope to carry this momentum from their first win of the season as they embark on a four-game road trip beginning with a matchup against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday.
