Domas' hilarious Kings realization on Jazz's near game-winner

It hasn’t taken long for Domantas Sabonis to understand how things work when you’re in a Kings uniform.

With 0.4 seconds remaining in the Kings-Utah Jazz game Tuesday night at Vivint Arena, Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen's astonishing buzzer-beater had fans jump out of their seats as Jazz players celebrated. But after review, the shot was waived off because the ball didn’t leave Markkanen’s hands in time.

If the shot beat the clock, the game might have had a very different outcome.

“Well, it was 0.4 seconds,” star Kings center Domantas Sabonis said postgame on whether he thought the shot was good or not. “Once I saw him catch it with his back to the basket, I didn’t even worry because I was like, ‘He has to catch it and turn around,’ you know what I mean? And I was like, ‘Whatever.’

“But then, you know, we’re the Kings, and I was like, ‘Well, we might have lost,’ but thankfully it was ruled off.”

Historically, the Kings haven't exactly had the best luck when it comes to things working in their favor. Fans even have referred to the team as the "Kangz" when they lose in some type of unique fashion.

It's something sports fans similarly have seen with the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders, who happen to lose in ways that end up trending in the worst way possible.

But the Kings avoided a "Kangz" moment Tuesday night with a 117-115 win, something they've managed to do often during this impressive start to the 2022-23 NBA season.

They'll need to avoid more of them, though, if they want to snap their 16-year playoff drought and make it to the postseason for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
