Michael Malone has his band of misfit toys fighting the good fight. They have won four straight and five out of six, but 10 of their remaining 15 are on the road. The Nuggets are developing an identity and it mirrors that of their coach.

Don’t count the Jazz out just yet. This isn’t the most talented team, but Quin Snyder leads his troops into battle. They currently trail the Rockets and Mavs by two games for the 7th and 8th spot in the west. Hayward and Favors are really solid second and third options moving forward.

Jimmy Butler keeps going back to Dr. James Andrews for his ailing knee. That should make Bulls fans cry. At some point, it’s time to pull the plug on a disappointing season in Chi-town.

This team was in the Western Conference Finals last season. Now they are clinging to hope that they can squeak into the playoffs. The Warriors and Spurs are waiting for them if they do and it’s unlikely that either of them fear the beard.

Team AARP is struggling down the stretch and will need a platelet infusion to hold off the charging Jazz. Dirk is still a player at 37, which makes the whole Kobe Bryant thing that much more sad to watch.

Damian Lillard gets all the fanfare, but the reason this team is still in the hunt has a lot more to do with Terry Stotts and C.J. McCollum. Stotts has his team fighting every night and McCollum has carried this team just as many nights as Lillard has.

Ty Lawson played five minutes for the Pacers before rolling his ankle. That may have been the best of all possible outcomes from this late season addition. Frank Vogel is another young coach with a tremendous future.

It looks like Chris Bosh might make a quicker-than-expected return. This is a deep and experienced team that might be dangerous in the playoffs. I’m not sure they are a four seed, but a first round series at home never hurt anyone.

Instead of blowing it up at the deadline, the Hawks stayed quiet. If the season ended today, Atlanta would see an inexperienced Celtics team in the first round. That doesn’t sound so bad.

The addition of Jeff Green makes this Clippers team dangerous. If they can get Blake Griffin back in time for the playoffs, the west becomes just a little bit more interesting. If they don’t, Steve Ballmer is going to roast Chuck the Condor on a spit while yelling loudly.

Jae Crowder is a huge piece to what Boston is trying to do. His ankle injury could hurt the Celtics down the stretch. With only a game and a half separating the third from the sixth seed, things are going to get interesting in the east.

If this is Kevin Durant’s last stand in OKC, he’s going to make it a good one. The Thunder are just a small step behind the western powers. They’ve become heavily reliant on Durant and Russell Westbrook, which may come back to haunt them in the end.

Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan are really good, but Jonas Valanciunas’ development as a consistent post presence makes this team dangerous. This is a deep team with plenty of upside.

The Cavs have as good a shot as anyone of getting their teeth kicked in by either the Warriors or Spurs when the championship series rolls around. The best the east has to offer is good, but nowhere near great.

The Spurs boast the top defensive rating in the league and their offensive rating is good enough for third best. Adding Andre Miller and Kevin Martin will help with depth on the offensive side of the ball, but neither play defense at all.

The loss of Andre Iguodala hurts, but the Warriors have developed a nice “next man up” mentality. The battle for the top spot will be decided soon enough. Golden State and the Spurs play three more times this season beginning Saturday in San Antonio.
