Kings' 10 best free agency, trade options to find new center

Steven Adams - Thunder
2018-19 Stats: 13.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.0 blocks, 59.5% FG, 33.4 min.
Age: 25
Contract Status: Two years remaining on a four-year, $100 million contract
OKC is in salary cap hell and running out of options. With a looming luxury tax bill expected to hit the $50 million mark, dealing away Adams would clear up everything.
According to a league source, “it’s not going to happen” for Sacramento, but you never know. The Kings easily could eat the remaining $53 million on Adams’ contract and come away with one of the league’s toughest bigs. He rebounds, plays defense and sets massive screens.

Jonas Valanciunas - Grizzlies
2018-19 Stats: 15.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 blocks, 54.5% FG, 22.3 min.
Age: 27
Contract Status: Unrestricted free agent
A change of scenery was just what the doctor ordered for the 7-footer out of Lithuania. Part of the deal that sent Marc Gasol to Toronto, Valanciunas blossomed in his 19 games with the Grizzlies.
He opted out of a $17.6 million contract with the hopes of a long-term deal. He already might have something worked out in Memphis, but he’s young enough to match the Kings’ player arc and instantly would improve the team’s rebounding.

Dewayne Dedmon - Hawks
2018-19 Stats: 10.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.1 blocks, 49.2% FG, 25.1 min.
Age: 29
Contract Status: Unrestricted free agent
Dedmon fought his way into the league and has made a nice living for himself. He fit well into the Hawks’ uptempo style last season, and he’s a player whose influence on a game often goes beyond the standard numbers.
He’s not a huge upgrade over Cauley-Stein on the glass, but he’s a major improvement as a defender and rim protector. Dedmon also shot an impressive 38.2 percent from behind the arc last season on 3.4 attempts per game. He could help stretch the floor for Marvin Bagley and work in tandem with Harry Giles at the position.

Al Horford - Celtics
2018-19 Stats: 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.3 blocks, 53.5% FG, 29 min.
Age: 33
Contract Status: Unrestricted free agent
Someone is about to pay Al Horford. We just don’t know who at this point. He’s long in the tooth for the squad the Kings have created, but the five-time All-Star still has plenty left in the tank.
Not the rebounder he once was, Horford wouldn’t help the Kings’ woes on the glass. But he’s a career 36.8 percent 3-point shooter and an accomplished passer who might perfectly complement Bagley in the post.
Rumors have Horford signing a four-year, $100 million deal. That’s a steep price to pay for a 33-year-old big.

Clint Capela -- Rockets
2018-19 Stats: 16.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.5 blocks, 64.8% FG, 33.6 min.
Age: 25
Contract Status: Four years remaining on a five-year, $90 million contract
Like Adams, the rumor mill has Houston searching for answers. If the Rockets find a major piece they would like to add, they might need to clear out Capela and the $75 million he’s owed over the next four seasons.
Capela is young, athletic and an instant improvement. Whether he actually becomes available is another question, but the Kings would be silly not to ask. They could even take on another contract to make things work for Houston.

Brook Lopez - Bucks
2018-19 Stats: 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 2.2 blocks, 45.2% FG, 28.7 min.
Age: 31
Contract Status: Unrestricted free agent
Lopez does two things extremely well -- he defends the rim, and he shoots the triple. One of the better shot blockers in the league, averaging 2.2 per game, he’s also shot 36.5 percent from deep on 6.3 attempts per game.
He’s slow and plodding, and he doesn’t rebound much at this point in his career, but he’s another player to set screens and stretch the floor. He’s likely to get a solid payday, and there are concerns about his ability to play at the Kings’ uptempo style, although Milwaukee ranked second in the league in pace last season with Lopez acting as the trailer.

DeAndre Jordan - Knicks
2018-19 Stats: 11.0 points, 13.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, 64.1% FG, 29.7 min.
Age: 30
Contract Status: Unrestricted free agent
Jordan continues to rebound at an incredible clip, and he’s not a bad defender despite plenty of wear and tear. He’s not a big-time scorer, and he doesn’t extend outside of the paint, but he’s still a lob threat and a player you have to defend.
After splitting time in Dallas and New York last season, Jordan might not want to join another team that is building, but he instantly would improve the Kings’ team defense and their rebounding issues.

Thomas Bryant - Wizards
2018-19 Stats: 10.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, .9 blocks, 61.6% FG, 20.8 min.
Age: 21
Contract Status: Restricted free agent
Bryant is an interesting option. A restricted free agent, the 21-year-old big found success last season in Washington after being waived by the Lakers. He can rebound and block shots, and he even hit 33.3 percent from long range.
Washington likely will match reasonable offers, but Bryant falls into an interesting loophole in the NBA’s salary-cap structure. If a team offers more than $9,073,050 (105 percent of the league average), the Wizards can’t match. The sample size is small, but Bryant was impressive in his 72-game tryout in Washington.

Nikola Vucevic - Magic
2018-19 Stats: 20.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.1 blocks, 51.8% FG, 31.4 min.
Age: 28
Contract Status: Unrestricted free agent
Vucevic does it all. He rebounds, blocks shots, passes and hits the 3-ball at 36.4 percent. An All-Star last season for the Magic, Vucevic is going to require a max money investment.
According to an NBA source with knowledge of the situation, the Kings are not interested in being that team. Maybe they change their mind and jump in the sweepstakes, but it’s unlikely.

Harry Giles - Kings
2018-19 Stats: 7.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, .4 blocks, 50.2% FG, 14.1 min.
Age: 21
Contract Status: Under Kings control for two more seasons
The Kings love Giles, but his level of experience and past injuries concerns have them looking for someone to bolster the position. That doesn’t mean they are giving up on the former prep star. They just have to be careful with putting all of their eggs in his basket.
If Sacramento believes he can take a huge step, there is a possibility the team looks for secondary options like Rachaun Holmes, Kevon Looney or even a return of Kosta Koufos. The Kings also can steal minutes at the position with Marvin Bagley and even Nemanja Bjelica as a floor spacer in a small-ball lineup.
