Kings add speedy guard Tyler Ulis to mix days before training camp

SACRAMENTO -- The Kings aren’t done building their roster just yet. Just three days before the start of training camp, general manager Vlade Divac announced the addition of point guard Tyler Ulis.

Ulis inked a 1-year, $1.67 million deal with Sacramento that is partially guaranteed and is not an Exhibit 10 contract, according to an NBA source.

After a promising sophomore season with the Phoenix Suns in 2017-18, Ulis, 23, visited Sacramento prior to training camp last summer. Instead of signing with the Kings, he decided to join the Warriors, but that didn’t last long.

Ulis was one of Golden State's last cuts and signed a deal with the Chicago Bulls last October. He was limited to just one game last season with Chicago due to a hip injury.

Now healthy, Ulis is ready for training camp with the Kings. He’ll join a crowded point-guard depth chart in Sacramento that already includes De’Aaron Fox, Cory Joseph and Yogi Ferrell.

The Kings liked the 5-foot-10 point guard during the 2016 NBA Draft and hope to continue Ulis' development with their G League affiliate in Stockton. He is lightning quick and is perfect for their uptempo style of play.

In 133 games over three NBA seasons, Ulis has averaged 7.5 points and 4.0 assists in 20.9 minutes per game. With his addition, the Kings’ roster now stands at 20, including two-way players Kyle Guy and Wenyen Gabriel.
