The Kings will be without coach Mike Brown as they face the Western Conference-leading Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night at Golden 1 Center.

The organization announced Tuesday afternoon that Brown has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocol and will be out for the game against Denver.

Brown will return to the Kings' bench once he receives clearance under the NBA's current guidelines, and associate head coach Jordi Fernandez will serve as Sacramento's head coach Tuesday.

Brown, the first-year Kings coach, has mild symptoms and hopes to be cleared soon, ESPN's Marc J. Spears reported shortly after the news broke, citing a source.

Sacramento also could be without star big man Domantas Sabonis on Tuesday, who is listed as questionable on the Kings-Nuggets injury report after fracturing his right thumb in Friday's loss to the Washington Wizards.

Tuesday's matchup against Nikola Jokić and Co. already was set to be a hard-fought battle against two of the West's top teams.

Now, the Kings' task becomes that much more difficult without their coach.
