KD: Kings' Huerter playing like superstars Steph, Klay

Kevin Durant saw firsthand what the Kings' explosive offense can look like in Sacramento's 153-121 drubbing of the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 15.

Contributing heavily to the Kings' 153-point effort -- one point shy of the team single-game record since the franchise moved to Sacramento in 1985 -- was sharpshooter Kevin Huerter, who nailed five 3-pointers and racked up 19 points.

"Kevin Huerter, right now, he's playing like Klay [Thompson], Steph [Curry]," Durant said on a recent episode of "The ETCs" to Boardroom's Eddie Gonzalez. "The way he's coming off the hand-off and shooting the basketball right now ... if you're not a basketball fan and locked in on the league, you've got to watch how Kevin Huerter is shooting this ball right now."

Huerter has knocked down at least five triples in five of the Kings' 15 games this season. He is putting up career numbers in his first season with Sacramento, averaging 16.6 points per game on 49.5 percent shooting from downtown.

"When you hear that, and then you watch the clips and film with the shots he's shooting, it's like, 'Oh, s--t, we're in for a long night,' " Durant exclaimed.

Huerter saw the video on Twitter and tweeted his appreciate for Durant's kind words.

But Durant wasn't finished praising the Kings. The message he received from Sacramento's blowout win was crystal clear: The 2022-23 Kings are for real.

"That's a tough team for anybody in the league," Durant said of the Kings. "I don't care if you're the Boston Celtics or you got the worst record in the league.

"You can't really switch anyone on to [Domantas] Sabonis because he's too strong," Durant said. "That throws off a lot of your defense.

"... Then you've got De'Aaron Fox coming downhill at you all game. Harrison Barnes who can get a bucket over anybody in isolation situations. Keegan Murray, he's playing like Michael Porter Jr. the way he's 6-foot-9, catching and shooting like that. And then off the bench, Terence Davis had [31 points] on us."

The Kings shot 59.6 percent from the floor and 48.8 percent from 3-point range against Brooklyn that night. Through 15 games, Sacramento leads the NBA in points per game (121.4), offensive rating (118.6), true-shooting percentage (62.1) and effective field-goal percentage (58.5).

"They shot the piss out of the ball," Durant said. "[They have] guys that can shoot it, that can get hot. Malik Monk. Trey Lyles, a good bench piece. [Chimezie] Metu can shoot it as a big. They've got a deep team.

"And a great coach. Mike Brown, every time it's a transition, he's screaming at them, 'Run to the corner! Get to the corner!' "

The Kings (9-6) are red-hot and riding their first six-game winning streak since 2005. There is plenty of work to be done on the other end of the court -- Sacramento ranks 27th with a 114.9 defensive rating -- but the team's mission is clear, and the offense is electric.

"I see where they're going," Durant concluded.
