Kyle Guy always was a long shot to be in the Sacramento Kings' rotation this season, as the team already features talented combo guards Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic, along with rookie Justin James.

The Virginia alum, who was a second-round draft pick by the Kings in June, is on a two-way contract with Sacramento, and has been lighting it up with the Stockton Kings in the G League. Guy dropped a career-high 42 points in Stockton’s 113-109 win over the Iowa Wolves on Saturday.

The 22-year-old is third among all G League players with 26.6 points per game, and also ranks second with 41 made 3-pointers.

The Kings have fought through injuries to both De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley to be right in the thick of the playoff chase, but Guy could provide a spark with his elite outside shot when his number finally is called to the NBA.
