Kings fans, Monk energizing one another during hot stretch

The Kings are riding high after their 130-112 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday at Golden 1 Center, leading to a fifth straight win. While Sacramento is playing well on both ends of the floor, the fans and Malik Monk are playing a large part in Sacramento's success early on in the 2022-23 NBA season.

Monk, who had 26 points off the bench in the win, has been a source of energy the Kings have turned to. The former University of Kentucky product can get hot quickly and rack up points as he did against the Spurs.

"He brings a lot of joy to this team," coach Mike Brown told reporters postgame. "He's always laughing and joking and, you know, he's a guy that keeps everybody connected and engaged just because he wants to have fun, not just for himself, but for everybody else.

"And that stuff is contagious, especially when you're going through some rocky times. But he's been fantastic."

From the victory beam to emulating Monk's now-signature band-aid look, Kings fans have been bringing energy both on and off the court.

The Kings crowd is providing the team with energy that has resulted in big wins at home over the Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors, all playoff teams from last season.

"Before the season, all we've been hearing is the drought, about the drought, about the drought, about the drought," Monk told reporters postgame following the win over the Spurs.

"And we just happy to have some energy here. And the fans are pushing us and they just energizing that so we going to keep it up."

The Kings hope the crowd continues to bring the energy with an opportunity to extend their win streak to six games against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday at Golden 1 Center.
