Brown will lean on past experience to help Kings learn to win

The Kings are heading into what they hope is a culture change after hiring former Warriors assistant Mike Brown as their new head coach.

The 52-year-old now will attempt to replicate what he learned in Golden State to help a franchise that hasn't made the playoffs since the 2005-06 season. Brown brings plenty of experience to the job in his head coaching career, having had stops with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers prior to joining the Warriors.

He also has been around some of the best players in the NBA, such as Steph Curry and LeBron James, and Brown hopes to relay his knowledge to a young Kings team that needs to learn how to win.

"I can always lean on a past experience to help any of the young guys that we have on our team and their development process," Brown told FOX 40's Sean Cunningham last week. "I'm excited about our talent. Our talent is young, and right now, they haven't won at a high level."

Despite having a team that hasn't won, Brown is ready to help the Kings grow with guards De'Aaron Fox and Davion Mitchell. Up front, Brown will lean on Domantas Sabonis and 2022 No. 4 pick Keegan Murray, who just won the NBA Summer League 2022 MVP.

"I can embark some of my experience, my real life experiences that I've had with guys that have won multiple titles, guys that have been All-Stars or MVPs to help them grow," Brown told Cunningham.

"It's extremely exciting for me to be a part of and hopefully embark some of my wisdom or my past experiences on these guys to not only help them in this team, but also to bring a lot of joy to the city of Sacramento and Kings fans."

Brown hopes he can take this young Kings team and turn them into a contender while bringing back the atmosphere that the franchise had at the old ARCO Arena in the 2000s.
