Kings' projected win total shows little faith despite additions

The Kings’ offseason so far has Sacramento fans hopeful, but bettors? Not so much.

Odds released by PointsBet show that, despite a flurry of recent changes to the franchise, the Kings are projected to finish the upcoming season with almost the same regular-season record they achieved in 2021-22.

Sacramento’s Over/Under is set at 32.5 regular-season wins or just 2.5 more than last season. The team's odds of finishing Under 32.5 wins are +130, and the odds of more than 32.5 wins are -155.

After missing out on playoffs for an NBA-record 16th straight season with a 30-52 record, the Kings fired coach Alvin Gentry and replaced him with former Warriors assistant Mike Brown.

Brown and general manager Monte McNair hit the ground running, selecting Iowa product Keegan Murray at No. 4 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft.

They signed Malik Monk, who’s coming off a career year with the Los Angeles Laker, and traded for Atlanta Hawks sharpshooter Kevin Huerter. The two key pickups and promising rookie join a fresh Kings core that already includes De’Aaron Fox, Davion Mitchell, and Domantas Sabonis.

After Murray was named the 2022 NBA Summer League MVP, ESPN’s Marc J. Spears picked the 21-year-old forward to win Rookie of the Year this season and help lead the Kings to the playoffs.

Despite seemingly doing everything right this offseason, it hasn’t been enough for the Kings to sway their betting odds.

PointsBet also has Sacramento as least likely to win the Pacific Division by a long shot at +5000, behind the Lakers (+900), Golden State Warriors (+225), Phoenix Suns (+180), and the Los Angeles Clippers (+155).

As the Kings look to end their playoff drought, they’re certainly hoping they can prove the odds wrong.
