Report: Kings focused on these two for front office tandem

NBC Sports

Is the King's search for a new front office already heading towards a conclusion?

According to Sports 1140’s David Weiglein, aka Carmichael Dave, chairman Vivek Ranadivé is focused on executives Sachin Gupta and Monte McNair, with the hopes that the pair will work in tandem.

Adding the highly regarded Gupta would be a huge win for the Kings. He is currently the executive vice president of basketball ops for the Minnesota Timberwolves after stops in Detroit, Philly and Houston.

If the Kings are going to lure him away from his post with the T-Wolves, it will likely take the top executive position in Sacramento with complete control of basketball decisions.

The potential of pairing Gupta with McNair in a general manager role, again, looks like a huge win for the Kings. The duo worked together with the Rockets from 2007-2012, before Gupta left to get his MBA from Stanford. They have familiarity and they were brought up in the same system under Daryl Morey in Houston.

Gupta, known for his development of the Trade Machine while working for ESPN, as well as for his time with the 76ers as their No. 2 behind Sam Hinkie, is well thought of around the league. He has a heavy focus on analytics, which should mesh with Ranadivé’s vision for a front office.

McNair, who was promoted to assistant GM in Houston in 2018 under Morey, is known for his unique ability to translate the complexities of analytics into real world functionality with the coaching staff.

According to Weiglein, the situation remains fluid. Ranadivé, his son Aneel and interim VP of basketball operations Joe Dumars, are conducting interviews.

There is no word on where former Atlanta Hawks executive Wes Wilcox or Denver Nuggets GM Calvin Booth, who were both on the team's original list of six and are still considered candidates, fit into this situation.
