Report: Kings' front-office decision expected by end of week

Are we in the home stretch?

It appears that Kings chairman Vivek Ranadivé is getting dangerously close to finding a new front-office executive to take the franchise into a new era.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the team’s list of four names shrunk to three on Wednesday morning when Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth removed his name from the running and the decision on a new executive could come as early as this week.

With Booth out of the picture, the Kings reportedly are down to Minnesota Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Sachin Gupta, Houston Rockets assistant GM Monte McNair and former Atlanta Hawks GM Wes Wilcox.

Booth’s removal from the process comes on the heels of his Nuggets' huge Game 7 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday. Denver advanced to the Western Conference finals and will face the Los Angeles Lakers beginning Friday in the Orlando bubble.

NBC Sports California has confirmed through a league source that the Kings intend to hire a top executive who will have control over the basketball side of the organization and answer directly to Ranadivé.

There was talk on Tuesday of Gupta leading the pack with McNair potentially being added as his No. 2, but a source confirmed that the situation is fluid and that whoever is hired will have the final say on their staff.

With the NBA draft reportedly slated for Nov. 18, the Kings have time to build a fully functioning new front office in time for what should be a very busy offseason in Sacramento.
