The Kings took a flyer on a former first-round pick Monday night.

Sacramento acquired Mfiondu Kabengele from the Los Angeles Clippers using a trade exception that would've expired today, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports California's James Ham. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the trade, in which the teams also swapped heavily protected second-round picks.

The Clippers acquired Kabengele, the No. 27 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, from the Brooklyn Nets on draft night. A 6-foot-9 forward and the nephew of longtime NBA veteran Dikembe Mutumbo, Kabengele has averaged just over 4.5 minutes in 33 games for the Clippers over the last two seasons.

Kabengele didn't join the Agua Caliente Clippers in the G League bubble this season, but he averaged 18.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in the NBA's second tier last year. The 23-year-old averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 71 games over two seasons with Florida State.

The Kings' frontcourt could be in flux in the coming days, giving Sacramento ample opportunity to evaluate Kabengele. Marvin Bagley, Richaun Holmes and Nemanja Bjelica all have been linked to potential trades or proposals, and the Kings' roster could look much different when the NBA trade deadline passes Thursday at noon P.T.
