Kings coach Luke Walton hoped prized rookie Tyrese Haliburton survived his fall in Thursday's road loss to the Houston Rockets without any ill effects.
It appears that wasn't the case.
Haliburton underwent a New Year's Day MRI on his left wrist that revealed a bone bruise, the Kings said in a statement. The 20-year-old won't play in Saturday's rematch in Houston, and the Kings will update his status when they return to Sacramento next week.

Through five games, Haliburton has been a standout for the Kings. He's averaging 10.6 points and 4.4 assists in 26.8 minutes per game off Walton's bench.

Haliburton broke his left wrist in February while playing for Iowa State. He missed the remainder of the season with the injury, but he has shown no ill effects during his time with the Kings.

With Haliburton out of action, the Kings likely will rely heavily on their starting backcourt of De'Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield for the next few games. Veteran Cory Joseph will garner an uptick in minutes, and Halburton's injury could open the door for Glenn Robinson III to get more of an opportunity after playing limited minutes in the team's first five games.
Following Saturday's game in Houston, the Kings return to Northern California and will take on the Warriors on Monday at Chase Center. A seven-game homestand begins Wednesday at Golden 1 Center against the Chicago Bulls.
