Sources: Stanford's Harris out for season after surgery

Stanford guard Gabriel Harris underwent knee surgery Thursday and is out for season, according to sources close to the program.

Harris has played in all 12 games this season, averaging 3.6 points a game. His 70-foot buzzer-beater just before halftime against Colorado State is arguably Stanford's most memorable play of the 2011-12 campaign.

The 6-2 junior apparently aggravated his right knee during last week's Butler game, a 71-66 loss to the Bulldogs that ended the Cardinal's perfect home ledger. He played just 6 minutes against Butler.

Against the Rams, with Stanford about to go into halftime down by five, Harris captured a defensive rebound with seconds to play. He took two quick dribbles and hoisted a long-distance attempt with both hands. The ball hit nothing but net, trimming the CSU lead to 33-31. Stanford went on to win 64-52 and Harris finished 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Harris did not accompany the team to Spain in September due to problems with his knee.

Stanford (10-2, 0-0 Pac-12), hosts UCLA (7-5, 0-0 Pac-12) tonight in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

Last season Harris appeared in 26 games, making two starts.
